Seven Out
A downloadable game
Seven Out is a roguelike played on a craps table, in the spirit of Balatro. You throw the dice, the numbers pay, and every win asks the same question: collect the pot now, or let it ride and risk the seven.
What you do
A table asks for a score before your shooters run out. Each roll adds its dice to your Pips; a winning roll multiplies your Mult by the odds. Make your point, or roll a 7 or 11 on the come-out, and the game stops to ask: Collect scores Pips × Mult and hands the dice to the next shooter, while Ride keeps the whole pot and throws a fresh come-out without spending a shooter. Ride again and the pot grows. Throw a seven with a point on and it is gone, Pips and all.
Between tables you rebuild the game around you. Charms rewrite the rules: 2 stops being Craps, doubles score twice, a bust pays out. Markers sit on the numbers and pay when they hit. You buy loaded, glass and gold dice, then reshape them with Tricks: shave a face off, trim a die toward the middle, weight a 6, engrave a 7. The felt shows how often the hand wins, 49.3% with fair dice, and every Trick previews what it would make it before you choose.
The pressure
Four shooters a table and three rerolls to save a bust. Targets climb from 250 to 30,000 over eight antes, and every third table is a Pit Boss who bends a rule: The Wall kills 4 and 10, The Owner halves every multiplier, Snake Pit makes Craps bust in any phase.
What carries over
Lose and the run is over, but the casino remembers. Wins open the next Limit, from $5 to Black Chip, and lifetime play opens new casinos that start you differently: Macau hands you three dice, the Back Alley a charm that wants you to lose. The Collection keeps every card you have met and 32 trophies.
In the box
- 153 charms, 30 markers, 10 dice, 19 Tricks, 12 Calls and 7 Hexes
- 20 Pit Bosses, 3 of them finales
- 8 casinos and 8 Limits; 8 antes, then endless
- A seeded run you can share and replay
- Mouse, keyboard or controller on every screen
- Colour-safe marks, reduced motion, and 1x/2x/4x game speed
The download
Windows, 64-bit, a 4.3 MB zip. Unpack it anywhere and run sevenout.exe; Windows will warn that it is unsigned ("More info", then "Run anyway"). Saves go to your profile folder, or beside the game if you add a portable.txt. PLAY.txt in the zip explains the rest.
How it was made
C++20 and SDL 3, with the felt, the smoke and the card finishes drawn by Vulkan shaders. Everything in it - the code, the pixel art, the music and sound, and the words - was written with Claude, an AI assistant, at my direction. The art is drawn by code (12x12 pixel grids and shader programs), not by an image generator, and the music is synthesised by code too.
What I'd like to know
- Does riding feel like a real choice, or is one answer always right?
- Which table, Pit Boss or Limit ended your runs?
- Do the dice-fixing Tricks feel too strong, or not worth a slot?
